State 3A 2001 Volleyball Champion: Seattle PrepThe State Championships at St. Martins College were a wonderful way to end a long and very competitive year. The tournament managers were Tim Trimble and Don Koplitz of Montesano High School, and they did a great job. Good staffing, excellent use of the internet to post the latest results, and an orderly and efficient site were the impressions I carried away. I was especially pleased with the nearly instantaneous web results. For example, around 1:30 pm Saturday afternoon, the West Valley/Colville match had the following notation: 12-15,15-7,12-3 (West Valley leads) About 30 minutes later, it was updated to read: 12-15,15-7,16-14 FINAL It didn't take too much imagination to appreciate the roller-coaster ride that fans of both teams had just experienced! And as a fan myself, I was very happy with the parking and amenities offered at St. Martins. Access to the upper deck was a bit of problem, but a little patience would see you thru, and a willingness to use one of the stairwells that exited out of the building and then to walk around the gym could save 5 or 10 minutes in a pinch. Maybe in the future they could mark the stairwell by the concessions "UP ONLY"? For more State results, please visit our Post-Season page, or check out the WIAA's 2001 3A Tournament Page directly.
