Kennedy and Mt. Rainier Co-Champs

24 Oct. 2001:  The King Division contingent to the West Central Districts is now complete except for the coin toss between Kennedy and Mt. Rainier to see who gets the first seed.  With last night's victories, Kennedy and Mt. Rainier finish the season with identical 12-1 Divisional match records. Since the teams split their two head-to-head matches, the new Seamount League rules call for a coin toss to see who gets the much favored K1 seed in the West Central Districts..  Meanwhile Highline turned back Tyee, and Evergreen breezed past Renton, to round out the King Division entries .  See Standings for match records and Match Results for match game scores.

Kennedy Thumps Hazen, Evergreen Breezes past Renton

23 Oct. 2001:  Partial results from tonight's matches are now in.  See Standings for current list of results.

Kennedy and Mt. Rainier Remain tied for First, Evergreen and Lindbergh tied for Fourth.

08 Jun 2002 :  There were no upsets Thursday night.  Kennedy took care of business against Highline while Mt. Rainier did the same against Evergreen.  Complete match results are available on the following pages:

Race for District Seeds Getting Serious

17 Oct. 2001:  Mt. Rainier drew even with Kennedy with a five game win over the Lancers Tuesday night in the race for the Divisional Championship.  Highline narrowly defeated Lindbergh and is one match away from locking up third, and Evergreen inched ahead of Lindbergh in the race for fourth with a four game victory over Hazen.  More details in Standings.

Revisions to District Championship

12 Oct. 2001:  It is fairly certain that the King Division will be given four spots in the West Central District Tournament.  Plans are to place King 1 and 4 in a pool with Pierce 2 and 3, and Pierce 1 and 4 in the other pool with King 2 and 3.  The team filling the Pierce 4th seed will be selected from outside the Seamount League.  As we presently understand the process, the assignment of the outside team to the fourth seed will not be based on any match results against the top three Pierce Division teams.  If so, and based on recent history,  this team is likely to be a bit of a wildcard, potentially stronger than some of the 2nd and 3rd place teams.  If this proves to be the case, the arbitrary, fourth-seed assignment would make the King 3 seed (and perhaps the King 2 seed) less desirable than the King 4 seed.

The tournament is scheduled to be held at Fife High School on November 3rd with both pool play and playoffs on the same day.  Pool play begins at 9:00 am, and one court has been assigned to each pool.  The match order is 1-4, 2-3, 1-3, 2-4, 1-2, and finally 3-4.  Subsequent matches are scheduled to begin every hour and fifteen minutes, and pool play should be over by 4:30 pm.

Under the present plan, there will be no cross-over match between the pools.  The first place teams from each pool will play each other for the District Championship, and the second place finishers will play for the third and final seed into the State Tournament.

Revisions to District Championship under Review

11 Oct. 2001:  We have been alerted that the SeaMount/King Division may have four playoff spots at Districts this year.  The situation is presently under review by the Athletic Directors, and we will keep you informed of their decisions as we learn of them.  As we understand it, the tournament is likely to be held at Fife High School on November 3rd with both pool play and playoffs on the same day.  Stay tuned!

The Path to the State Championships ... Standings are Key

Oct. 7, 2001:  The SeaMount League has changed a great deal since last year.  No longer a part of the Sea-King District, SeaMount now has fifteen member schools divided into the eight team King Division and the seven team Pierce Division.  And SeaMount schools no longer have a League Championship Tournament.  Instead they feed directly into a District Tournament based on their season record.  With this new setup, SeaMount/King Division teams must finish in the top three spots to be invited to the SeaMount District Championships.  The District Championships will be held at the end of the first week of November, perhaps on the 2nd and 3rd (Friday and Saturday.)  Unlike past years, there will be no Divisional or League championship the preceding week.

It is currently believed that the District Tournament will use a format that is a scaled-down version of the State Tournament.  If so, the tourney would begin with two four- team pools that would play round- robins with the top two teams from each pool (four teams total) advancing to bracket-play to compete for the three seeds to the State Tournament that have been allocated to the SeaMount District.  Presumably the semi-finals would match the first place finishers against the second place finishers from opposing pools.   The losers of the semi-finals would play for the third and final seed to States, while the winners would play in the Finals for the District Championship and the first and second place seeds to State.

The State Championships are scheduled for the 9th and 10th of November at St. Martin's College, which is located just north of Olympia about a mile or so east of I-5.
